Roger Proudfoot

Your Werrington ward candidate

Roger Proudfoot

I have lived in Werrington for 18 years between Wycliffe Grove and now Lincoln Road. I am passionate about the environment pursuing a professional career as a manager in the environmental public sector with 28 years of experience working on environmental issues and projects. I have been a Parish Councillor and Neighbourhood Councillor for 2 years. I am actively involved with volunteering and organising conservation activities and litter picks and campaigning for safer, quieter streets in Werrington. I support and raise money for a wide range of charities including WaterAid, Sport Relief, Age Concern, Oxfam, Butterfly Conservation, Marine Conservation Society, Buglife, Wildlife Trust and the World Wildlife Fund.

As a councillor I have been helping to lead the introduction of extra play equipment in playgrounds, gain extra protections for our green spaces, advising on sensitive tree management, taking part in speed-watch campaigns, leading environment groups, carrying out neighbourhood clean ups and coordinating Werrington Brook engagement activities through organising RiverCare and wildlife events.

I do these activities because I love where I live and want to give something back to my community for people and wildlife. Unlike other candidates I am not told what to do by my party. This means I am free to represent the interests of Werrington people and be just as independent as others claim to be.

These are just some of my aims for Werrington and Peterborough and I would work hard on your behalf to achieve them:

Work towards an end to fatalities and injuries on our roads (pets as well as people), with 20mph being the default for our residential streets and near our schools;

Greater protection and promotion of our green spaces with active community engagement especially Cuckoo’s Hollow, the Paddocks and Sobrite in Werrington and more generally across Peterborough.

Protecting our community buildings at Loxley, the Village Centre and Hodgson Avenue establishing them as long-term community assets for all to use affordably.

Ensuring support for friendship clubs so that elderly residents can continue to connect with others and maintain social bonds that keep them active, well and enjoying community life;

Sensitive management of our beautiful trees that contribute so much to the wellbeing of people in Werrington.

Support to local business to keep Werrington functioning as a community of people, proud of where they live.

Help me to give Werrington a Green voice and vote Green in the council elections.

Roger previously stood for Werrington in the 2016 city council elections.
